Edward Lawrence is a senior foreign news camera journalist for the BBC currently based in China, where he covers the country and the region.

He previously worked producing and shooting news and political documentaries in the UK including the Brexit Storm: Laura Kuenssberg’s Inside Story, and before that worked as a producer, video journalist and camera operator for a range of British and international news agencies and broadcasters including the BBC, ITN (ITV News), Aljazeera, SBS, ABC News, Vice Media and The Press Association amongst others.

Since arriving in China, Edward has covered a range of stories including the Hong Kong pro-democracy protests, China’s battle with swine fever, and the coronavirus pandemic – staying in China for a full two years nonstop to continue covering the story as China’s borders shut.

Edward has a strong interest in producing and shooting features focusing on Chinese culture and society.
